title = "Carbon dioxide reforming of methane over supported molybdenum carbide catalysts",
abstract = "Supported Mo2C materials have been prepared, characterised and tested as catalysts for the CO2 reforming of CH4. The order of increasing reactivity was: Mo2C-SiO22C-ZrO22C-Al2O3. Raman analysis indicated that the presence of easily reducible polymolybdate species on the surface of the precarbided material coincided with higher reactant conversions. Deactivation of the catalyst samples was shown to be due to C deposition; for example, the Mo2C-Al2O3 sample deactivated completely after 4 h on stream. However, the amount of C deposited on the Mo2C-ZrO2 sample was insignificant and the catalyst remained relatively stable. Characterisation of the precarbided MoO3-ZrO2 material showed that low calcination temperatures. It was also found that the addition of Bi as promoter encouraged higher reactant conversions.",
