Abstract

Pure water is the most basic necessary of our lives. Safe drinking water is a high demanding material in many parts of the world. The lack of clear water is mainly due to the increased population that lead to pollution in addition droughts and other environmental issues play a key role in decreasing the availability of safe water. Nanomaterials are employed in various fields of applications. Owing to their unique properties, they are selected as materials in environmental applications such as water purification, heavy metal removal, antifouling materials, etc. The membrane synthesis is found to be a very advanced topic of research in nanotechnology. Various natural and synthetic membranes are available by virtue of nanotechnology. Here the details included are with the wonder nanomaterial -the nanotubes. Carbon nanotubes are being the most favorite candidate among the nanomaterials since their discovery. They can be utilized for environmental applications such as filtration. Filtration membranes based on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and their hybrids and composites are being explored widely. CNTs are able to remove the contaminants or pollutants such as organic matter, heavy metals, and bacteria.
