Abstract
The chapter provides information on biomass-derived char production technology. In particular, char elaboration techniques are described with a focus on pyrolysis conditions. Furthermore, char characterization methods are presented. There are a number of constrains with regard to char properties, methods, and production conditions that guide suitable applications. Therefore, sustainable assessment identifying the best production method, taking into account technical, financial, and environmental criteria, is required before transfer technology can be considered at a large scale.
