Abstract
This is a series of video vignettes regarding best practice in Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR). The resource which draws on meaningful episodes from real-life contexts and field work data supports students, staff and community partners who engage with communities in placements, project or research work.
The project involved the design, recording, analysis, and editing of 13 hours of curated conversations with stakeholders in CBPR. Ten key principles of CBPR are considered in the thematic analysis.
ROLES: Dr. Deirdre Ní Loingsigh: academic lead and project manager, co-producer with Dr Orfhlaith Ní Bhriain, Irish World Academy.
OTHER ROLES & CONTRIBUTIONS: The following members of the UL K4C team supported the development of the project and resource: Prof. Maura Adshead; Alphonse Basogomba; Jimmy Burke; Maria Healy; Eileen Hoffler; Dónal O’Leary, and Niamh O'Sullivan - participants in the series (interviewers); supported the transcription process (12 hours content); advised co-producers re key moments in the recorded conversations. The following were participants in the series as interviewees: Anne Loftus, Phelim Macken, Fianait Mitchell, Veronica Moynihan, Hilary McAlea, Jess O’Donoghue, Pól Ó Flatharta, John Real and Jean Ryan
The series was launched in February 2022 and disseminated by UL Engage / UNESCO Knowledge for Change Global Network.
In AY23/24: COMHRÁ materials were a resource in five UL modules and in the UL Engage - South African based organisation IFWEA (International Federation of Workers' Education Associations) collaborative online programme.
