Abstract
This paper addresses the formal description of services for their subsequent advertisement and discovery through wireless billboard channels. These are point-to-multipoint, simplex, narrowband, and unidirectional channels that are solely used for the purposes of advertisement, discovery and association of wireless services in a ubiquitous consumer wireless world. A service discovery model along with a service description format is proposed and corresponding service templates are elaborated. As minimizing bandwidth requirement is one of the desired properties of these channels, the service descriptions are formatted with the information entropy efficient composition of the abstract syntax notation standard and are encoded using its packed encoding rules. An efficient software encoding/decoding architecture is also proposed.
