Design formulae for buckling of biaxially loaded laminated rectangular plate with flexural/ twist anisotropy

Research output: Contribution to journalConference articlepeer-review

Abstract

Closed form solutions for biaxially loaded rectangular plates with flexural anisotropy are presented. Up until recently there have been no closed form solutions to assess this effect, and so aid the designer although Nemeth has produced a set of comprehensive and very useful design charts to assist designers, basing the work on a numerical solution to an analytical model. Recently, the author has derived closed form solutions for the long anisotropic flat plates, with simply supported edges, subject to uniaxial compression loads. The current paper extends these solutions to applied loads that are biaxial in nature. Comparisons with detailed finite element analysis both validate and provide confidence in the models.
