Abstract

This paper presents some design aspects of a generic, multi-service, cloud-based IoT operational platform, called EMULSION, as a representative of the new horizontaltype IoT platforms emerging as a replacement of the existing vertical-type IoT platforms. The architectural overview and main characteristics of the platform are presented, along with its multi-tiered structure, with particular attention paid to the communication tier, designed to support heterogeneous internetworking across different networks.
