N2 - This paper presents the design and realization of a small, robust, low-cost and easily accessible data transfer unit (DTU), acting as a gateway between a wireless sensor network (WSN) and a corresponding information center (server) operating on the Internet. The unit consists of an Advanced RISC Machine (ARM) microcontroller unit (MCU), a General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) module, and a power supply module. The DTU was successfully tested and its use demonstrated.
