Abstract

Four papers presented at the liquid membrane technology and membrane distillation session of Euromembrane 2000 are summarized. These addressed the following topics: mass transfer in liquid membranes with crossing liquid streams; the removal of heavy metals from industrial wastewater using hybrid and aqueous hybrid liquid membranes; correlations between structural properties of activated composite membranes obtained by different analytical techniques; and an analysis of the phenomena limiting the flux in vacuum membrane distillation for the removal of volatile organic compounds at trace levels.
