title = "Developments in morphing composites",
abstract = "Since Hyer's pioneering work on shape prediction of unsymmetric cross ply laminates 30 years ago there has been a surge of interest in these laminates for multistable structures in morphing applications such as aerodynamic control surfaces, deployment, and twisting devices. Bistable and multistable structures are desirable because they exhibit good stiffness and their actuators only need to work during transition between shapes. Alternative ways of gaining bistability include prestressing, flexural rigidity variation and tailoring initial curvatures. This article briefly reviews developments in modelling of multistable composites and then focuses on applications of morphing composites in aerospace.",
