Abstract
A two-dimensional discrete element method is applied to heating of spherical particles in a horizontal rotating drum. The results are presented in terms of the overall heat transfer coefficient, and are compared with the penetration model and results of experiments taken from literature. The limitations of such continuum models are discussed along with the potential of DEM.
