Abstract

The preparation of continuous FePt films using electrodeposition, and their structural and magnetic characterizations were reported. The films were annealed at temperatures between 300°C and 700°C in a vacuum of 10 -6 torr to obtain the ordered L10 FePt phase. Compositional analysis using energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDX) revealed the stoichiometric 50:50 composition in the films. The samples annealed at 500°C exhibited a coercivity of 0.2 T and the hysteresis curve showed a shape that suggested magnetic inhomogeneity.
