Exploring the coaching toolbox in adventure sports

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

This chapter aims to equip you with knowledge of the key aspects of the coaching process that follow from some of the concepts of motor control presented in Chapter 4 and the framework for coaching presented in Chapter 5. Previously, we have alluded to the adventure sports coach possessing a metaphorical “toolbox”. This chapter aims to spell out the contents of that toolbox. Although many of these tools were initially explained from an information-processing perspective, where appropriate we will also comment on how coaching through an Ecological Approach might make use of some of these tools. For a more comprehensive introduction to coaching through an Ecological Approach, we recommend Woods et al. (2020) or Renshaw and Chow (2019).
