Abstract

Although the ethnography of political violence has received considerable attention over the last decade, the study of conflict-elated fear has received relatively limited consideration. 1 Our chapter makes a contribution to this area by analyzing fear in a Tamu (Gurung) 2 village in central Nepal during the “People’s 234War”. 3 By presenting a chronological analysis of fear over time we draw attention to the interrelationship between fear, temporality and sociality, and show that fear is always contextual, differently experienced through time and related to personal circumstances.
