title = "Glaciers and Ice Sheets",
abstract = "Chapter 10 begins with an overview of various phenomena which are of interest in glaciology: waves, surges, ice shelf collapse, and so on. Following this, the shallow ice approximation is derived in detail for both glaciers and ice sheets, and also for ice shelves. Theories for subglacial sliding and drainage are presented, and the resulting theories used to describe waves and surges. The chapter finishes with theoretical discussions of drumlins, eskers and the Martian polar ice caps.",
