Abstract

A study was conducted to drive design formulas for buckling interaction of orthotropic plates under combined loading. The buckling interaction formula can be obtained by using an accurate Rayleigh-Ritz analysis. The study developed a formula for long orthotropic plates with clamped edges and combined loading. Buckling coefficients is a monotonically increasing function of one non-dimensional parameter. Loading combinations includes, uniaxial tension or compression and shear, pure in-plane bending and shear, and uniaxial tension or compression and pure-in-plane bending loads. The study found that the buckling-coefficient ratios correspond to axial tension loads. The study observed that buckling interaction curves vary for each combined-loading case.
