Abstract
Mixing time measurements have been carried out in a 0.29 m diameter vessel mounted with an inclined blade impeller. The viscosity ratio between the added liquid and the bulk liquid has been varied between 0.009 and 11. The density difference has been varied between -100 and +50 kg/m3. The data show that for certain flow conditions the viscosity ratio and the density difference have a significant effect on the mixing time. For high stirrer speeds the mixing time can be predicted using the correlation N·tm = constant. For low stirrer speeds the mixing can be described by the theory of surface renewal.
