Abstract
The small cage-like hydrophilic aminophosphine 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane (PTA) and its derivatives have received a remarkable and renewed interest due to their aptitude to solubilize transition-metal complexes in an aqueous medium. This chapter outlines the synthetic strategies that have been used to obtain copper complexes bearing PTA and related ligands, the coordination chemistry and structural features of the complexes, as well as their applications as catalysts and antitumor agents.
