Abstract
The workshop I am presenting is designed to enhance AI literacy among the University of Limerick’s community of educators. This initiative aligns with the broader goal of integrating advanced technologies into educational practices, specifically focusing on the utilization of AI tools like GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) within a pedagogical context. The core of this workshop revolves around the hands-on experience of building a personalized GPT model on the ChatGPT Plus platform, tailored to the unique educational needs and environments of the participants.
Incorporating the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), this workshop not only addresses the technical aspects of building a GPT but also emphasizes the creation of inclusive and accessible learning experiences. UDL is a framework that guides the design of learning experiences to be accessible and effective for all. By applying UDL principles, educators can create learning environments that offer multiple means of engagement, representation, and action and expression. This ensures that all learners, regardless of their abilities or backgrounds, can benefit from the educational materials and methods.
The workshop will be a practical sessions on setting up and customizing a GPT (ChatGPT Plus) for educational purposes. Participants will learn how to fine-tune the AI model to align with their curriculum, teaching objectives, and the diverse learning needs of their students. They will also explore additional considerations, such as security, privacy and copyright, and the responsible use of AI in education.
