title = "Introduction to “The Mesentery in Inflammation”",
abstract = "All abdominal digestive organs are directly connected to the mesentery. A significant proportion of the immune system is located in the mesentery and mesenteric domain. Given this, it is imperative that we explore the mesentery in inflammation. The following introductory chapter commences by explaining the aims of this book. This is followed by an overview of the contents and then a brief summary of each chapter. All authors are leading experts in their respective fields and each chapter is a state-of-the-art narrative review. Collectively the chapters explain our current understanding of the role of the mesenteric organ in inflammation. They identify cellular and molecular targets that may possibly provide future therapeutic targets and thus obviate the requirement for surgical intervention.",
