Abstract

As an automated preforming technique, tow steering offers excellent opportunity to tailor preforms. However, inherent limitations of this technique include in-plane and through-thickness presence of stitch yarn, backing fabric and a stitch-heavy side of the preform. A soluble stitch yarn and a peel-ply are used to overcome these limitations.
