Abstract

A designer is anyone who intentionally makes choices to improve outcomes and creatively intervenes in that process. The more the person displays intent, planning, creativity and rigour in this work, the more the title of ‘designe belongs to him/her. Schweitzer, Groeger and Sobel (2016) identified eleven design thinking traits. Sports coach mentors clearly manifest this work ethic, and indeed the traits of design thinkers, as they design optimum mentoring conversations as rich sites of novice coach learning. We conclude that sports coach mentors are in fact design thinkers who clearly possess innovation intelligence as they support novice coach learning.
