Abstract
LITANY by Justin Grounds was composed in 2023 for Yonit Kosovske & Wolodymyr Smishkewych. The work is in homage to four extinct or endangered animals: Pinta Island Tortoise, Ivory Billed Woodpecker, Splendid Poison Frog, and Western Black Rhinoceros. The piece opens with a recitation of an English translation of a poem by Ranier Maria Rilke.

This performance on the 18th of March 2025 was the world premiere and was part of a Tower Seminar chaired by Dr Yonit Kosovske on Contemporary Harpsichord Composition & Collaboration at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University of Limerick. The seminar was one of many events during Early Music Week in the lead up to the weekend of the annual Limerick Early Music Festival 20–22 March.
A music video project of Litany will be recorded in August 2025.
