Abstract
Pianist Yonit Kosovske performed with soprano Tríona Walsh in an Art Song recital titled "A Woman's Life and Love" in Theatre 2 of the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University of Limerick. The programme included seven songs from the 1600s through Contemporary, featuring female composers such as Barbara Strozzi, Ellen Mandel, and Rebecca Clarke, as well as recent works by local composers Fiona Linnane and Tríona Walsh, in addition to one piece by Eric Whitacre.
In 1830, Adelbert von Chamisso published a cycle of nine poems which he named "Frauen-Liebe und Leben' (A Woman's Love and Life), the poems of which inspired Robert Schumann's song cycle. This recital reimagined von Chamisso's subject matter, exploring contemporary themes of love, domesticity, and motherhood.
