Abstract
For the purpose of revising the influence of the tube wall on packed bed adsorption by simulations a two-dimensional model has been used, which is proven to describe heat and mass transfer, and the operation of wall-cooled catalytic packed bed reactors very reliably. In comparison with reduced models the simulation results and their analysis reveal that the described two-dimensional modeling is mandatory in order to reliably represent the operation of packed bed adsorbers with tube-to-particle diameter ratios of less than about twenty.
