Abstract

Nanomedicine-based targeted delivery systems relies on the multifunctional nanoparticles as a therapeutic module represents a marvelous avenue for breast cancer therapy. Nanomedicine are widely investigated preclinically with many nanoparticle-based formulations and technologies having already been introduced in the clinic. The development of various types of nanoparticles (NPs) for use in all facets of breast cancer detection and therapy has shown great progress over the past two decades. Nanomedicines have been tailored for use as tumor imaging by using nano contrast enhancement agents, drug delivery vehicles using hybrid nanostructures, and as a therapeutic component in initiating tumor cell death in ultrasound, magnetic and photonic ablation therapies. This chapter addresses recent information of applications of nanomedicine in diagnosis, treatment, and treatment monitoring of breast cancer. The chapter establishes the connection between nanomedicine and breast cancer therapeutics. Comprehensive review of nanomedicine technologies that are currently being investigated in clinical trials are provided and highlight the current clinical landscape of breast cancer nanomedicine.
