On the Origins of Medicine in Ireland

Abstract

Using information derived from archaeology, literature, hagiography, and Old Irish law this paper analyses the evidence for disease and the practice of medicine in Ireland in the early medieval period and argues for an awareness among its practitioners of the tenets of classical medicine.
