Optical amplifiers: SOAs

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

This article reviews the basics, common structures and some important applications of semiconductor optical amplifiers. Simple mathematical models are used to predict static and dynamic characteristics. Conventional applications such as power boosters and preamplifiers are described as well as the optical signal processing applications of wavelength conversion, optical logic, data regeneration, remodulation and microwave phase shifting.
