Abstract

Optical fibers are close to ideal detectors to measure radiation beams for cancer therapy, either as beam monitors or for dosimetry. Several organic and inorganic fibers were tested with proton and neutron beams. One material stood out in its almost complete lack of quenching for low proton energies.
