Abstract

In this paper, several Admission Control (AC) algorithms are presented and evaluated in a Joint Radio Resource Management (J-RRM) environment where several Radio Access Technologies (RATs) coexist. The considered policy-based AC algorithms make use of load-balancing concepts. Performance assessment is based on simulations. During the analysis, the AC methods were compared against the non-joint AC scheme, which was considered as a benchmark. Results show that overall network behavior and the best AC algorithm prove dependent on coverage radius, terminal capabilities and network capacities. Nonetheless, results show that, in some cases, AC algorithms for JRRM schemes can reach 60-80% traffic gains when compared to the non-joint scheme.
