Abstract

The feasibility of photo-inducing gratings structures on Plastic Optical Fibers is reported using a phase mask technique. The fiber is exposed to UV laser light at 248 nm through a phase mask and the characteristics of the induced gratings are evaluated and discussed in terms of angular intensity distribution. Finally, application of Plastic Optical Fiber end gratings to the field of telecommunications and sensors are discussed.
