Pilot Study Refinement of a Software Comprehension Based Experiment

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperpeer-review

Abstract

This paper reports on an experiment that has been designed to investigate inference-based processing, hypothesis-based processing and systematic-based processing by programmers during program comprehension. Specifically it addresses the design of this experiment and how the experiment has evolved through a number of pilot studies carried out at the institute. It presents the problems we encountered with the initial pilot studies, and refinements, to show how these led us to its present state.
