Abstract
In this position paper, we argue the importance of systems (languages, operating systems, architectures) as a component in real-time systems education. We begin by considering the facets of real-time systems and discussing the current state of real-time systems education. We then present two recommendations, for attention to systems issues and to complex systems, respectively. We close by discussing approaches to real-time systems education used in our practice.
