Abstract
INTRODUCTION Any program which is capable of processing natural language must incorporate some scheme for representing meaning. Yet, despite a great deal of intensive research in this area, workers within artificial intelligence (AI) have failed to come up with any general method for capturing the underlying content of even simple passages of English.
