Abstract

National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) that already exist in many countries are a promising infrastructure for nationwide e-assess-ments. However, researchers do not focus sufficiently on NREN based e-assessment architectures. Many e-assessment architectures based on public cloud computing already exist that have interoperability, security and adaptability problems. Stand-alone and web-based learning management systems (LMSs) have also limitations of adaptability for the nationwide e-assessment. In this paper, we investigate how to improve the interoperability, security and adaptability of e-assessment systems on the nationwide level. The Afghanistan research and education network (AfgREN) is considered as a case in this research. A requirements bazaar is used for gathering data about functional and non-functional requirements. We use design science as a research method and we analyze the relevant aspects of NREN-based e-assessment architectures by using the architecture tradeoff analysis method (ATAM).
