Abstract

This paper presents a review of recent research efforts in the field of the application of machine vision in the control of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV). The paper focuses on Ave particular applications for machine vision underwater. Each application is discussed and its evolution into its present state is analysed by looking at different projects. Projects are categorised for each application and an assessment regarding the performance of the strategies is given. Their advantages and disadvantages are discussed. Based on the authors' observations, possible future trends are identified for each application.
