Abstract
Rubber nanocomposites are promising materials for enhancing coating durability and performance across diverse industries. Conventional rubbers, while mechanically sound, often lack sufficient wear, friction, and corrosion resistance. Incorporating nanomaterials like silicates and carbon black addresses these limitations, leading to improved traction, reduced friction, and enhanced protective properties. These enhancements extend the lifespan of products such as tires, seals, and coatings, enabling new applications in sports equipment and medical devices. The development of antibacterial and antiviral rubber nanocomposite coatings offers exciting potential for healthcare and food packaging. Optimizing formulation and structural integrity is crucial for cost-effective and sustainable production. A thorough assessment of their long-term environmental and health impact is also necessary before widespread adoption. This chapter examines rubber nanocomposite coatings’ preparation, property improvements, and applications, emphasizing their potential as advanced materials for enhanced wear and corrosion resistance.
