N2 - We report herein that the mode of entanglement in square lattice, sql, coordination networks formed by an extended bis-imidazole ligand, L, can be controlled by the solvent used during solvothermal synthesis. [ML2(NO3)2]n (M = Co, Ni) exhibit both parallel 2D → 2D interpenetration and, unusually, mixed entanglement (parallel-inclined 2D → 3D polycatenation).
