What sounds travelled with those who crossed the Atlantic edges of Europe? Sonic Migrations of the Wild Geese traces pathways of movement between Ireland, France, Spain, and the wider European world through the music of the medieval, Renaissance, and early Baroque eras. Performed by Yonit Kosovske (harpsichord), Sarah Groser (viola da gamba), Teddie Hwang (historical flutes), and Wolodymyr Smishkewych (voice, hurdy gurdy, lyre), the programme follows routes of pilgrimage, exile, and encounter: from medieval song and dance to the refined sounds of courts and chambers, and the musical worlds that may have accompanied generations of Irish travellers abroad. Performed on traverso flute, viol, harpsichord, hurdy-gurdy, percussion, and voice, this programme explores how memory, migration, and music crossed borders—and how traces of those journeys echo along the Atlantic shores of Ireland, France, Spain and across Europe.
