Abstract

The linebroadening of optical signals by semiconductor laser amplifiers with nonzero facet reflectivity is observed. The linebroadening was shown to be of the order of 10% for an uncoated 25.5 dB Fabry—Perot amplifier with an input signal linewidth of 9.9 MHz. The linebroadening is particularly important in weakly coherent systems.
