Abstract

In the reported experimental study, the kinetics of the steam reforming of methane (CH//4 plus H//2O yields CO plus 3H//2) have been examined over a commerical co-precipitated nickel alumina catalyst and over a nickel catalyst supported on gamma -alumina. The mechanism of the reaction is shown to be different over each catalyst, and this conclusion is confirmed by CH//4 plus D//2O experiments. The two mechanisms are discussed. The results for the CH//4 plus D//2O reaction over other impregnated catalysts are also presented. The results for all the catalysts are discussed in terms of the catalyst structure.
