"Stokes' Collar" due to a retrosternal toxic goitre

Abstract

A 61 year old man had a large retrosternal goitre causing mediastinal compression, resulting in Stokes' Collar and recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy. Following thyroidectomy, the mediastinal compression resolved and vocal cord function returned to normal.
