Abstract
In an effort to overcome the limitations of traditional professional development models, researchers and practitioners in adapted physical education (APE) are increasingly turning to technology-based professional development. This chapter explores technology-based professional development as an emerging research topic in the field of APE. Topics discussed include the theoretical and conceptual frameworks underpinning technology-based professional development research, current scholarship on formal and informal online professional development, trends and issues in technology-based professional development research, and implication for research and practice. With research on this topic currently in its infancy in the field of APE, this chapter also delves into the topic of technology-based professional development in other disciplines so as to inform future research related to APE.
