Abstract

Commissioned by RTÉ, Toċomlod is a work exploring migration and its historic effects on the Donegal communities as they move between the isolation of the pastoral Northwest and the urban centres of Scotland and the similarities and shifts in the everyday corporeal gestures from working the fields to the production line.
The Scots Gaelic song Fear a’ Bhàta, commonly taught in Donegal Gaeltacht schools, was arranged award winning composer Natasa Paulberg as soundtrack and performed by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra for the performance.
Toċomlod was shot on location in the lazy beds of Oileán Árainn Mhór, Tír Chonaill.

Taifeadta in iomairí Oileán Árainn Mhór, Tír Chonaill, is saothar damhsa é Toċomlod a scrúdaíonn agus a dhéanann scagadh ar an imirce agus a tionchar ar phobal Tír Chonaill agus iad ag bogadh idir iargúltacht talmaíochta an Iarthuaiscirt agus ionaid uirbeacha na hAlban, agus na cosúlachtaí agus na hathruithe sna gothaí corpartha laethúla ó obair chuibhrinn agus an líne táirgthe.
Tá an fuaimrian bunaithe ar Fear a’ Bhàta, amhrán Gaeilge Albanach a múineadh go minic i scoileanna Gaeltachta Dhún na nGall, eagraithe ag an gcumadóir gradamúil Natasa Paulberg agus á sheinm ag Ceolfhoireann Choirme RTÉ.
