Abstract

TRIPLE SPIRAL is a work composed in 2023 by Justin Grounds for Yonit Kosovske, drawing inspiration from Baroque instruments and bringing it into the present day. The piece is vibrant, contemporary, and mesmerising. The 3 movements (spirals) have the fast-slow-fast structure of an 18th-century trio sonata, while taking inspiration from modern drum’n’bass beats and rhythmic patterns, electronic music, and particle physics.

The work has been performed live at the Galway Early Music Festival 2023 (instrumental version only), at Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre in Skibbereen as part of Dance Week 2024 (with dance artist Chloé Pisco), and in Limerick as part of Culture Night 2023 at The Hunt Museum (with dancer Yumi Lee).

Yonit & Justin also made a film of Triple Spiral, which has been screened in Limerick and West Cork, as well as online. The film features:
