Use of optical fibre for data transfer and control within the Australia Telescope

Research output: Contribution to journalConference articlepeer-review

Abstract

Optical fibres are used as a transmission medium for the 512 Mbit/s data links of the Australia Telescope. An inter-computer data link and a real-time clock signal are multiplexed onto the same fibres. A laser safety shutdown control system is also incorporated into the electro-optics system. The factors affecting system configuration and some of the link developments are described.
