Abstract

In this paper we examine QoS provisioning may be realised through statistical analysis of real time UDP VBR data (Variable Bit Rate). Using statistical analysis it is possible to allocate an effective bandwidth. We provide empirical evidence of the self-similarity of different types of VBR sources and show how this can be utilised to provide for a mechanism for bandwidth allocation at the edge routers.
