Abstract

Teaching values and life skills is seen as a plausible way to prepare students for the future in the new era. Physical education (PE) curriculum has been revised to include life skills development as one of the key aims of PE classes worldwide. Existing research has shown that students’ values and life skills can be developed through different PES contexts/activities. PE participation among students has received growing attention, though the role played by PE teachers’ has received relatively little research attention currently. Furthermore, the act of participating in PES context/activities does not necessarily guarantee the development of character nor the learning of values and life skills. Therefore, it is important to examine the profound impact that PE teachers can potentially have in these contexts. Hence, this chapter aims to introduce, illustrate, and analyse why, what, and how PE teachers teach values and life skills within various sports and cultural contexts. Our findings aim to offer both theoretical insights and practical guidelines for PE teachers to deliver values and life skills in sport.
