Abstract
If there is one single invention that has inspired mankind to scientific endeavour, it is perhaps the telescope. From the time of Galileo, right through to the space-telescopes of the present day, astronomers have always been seeking to build bigger and more powerful instruments to enable them to see deeper into space.
