Abstract
Dr Yonit Kosovske (piano) and Dr Pauline Graham (soprano) performed a semi staged version of Franz Schubert's song-cycle Winterreise at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University of Limerick. Audience members, seated on stage with the piano, sat on chairs, meditation cushions, or yoga mats facing in multiple directions with ample space between each person to provide a solo listening experience, suggestive of the solo journey of the wanderer in the song cycle. The singer wandered around the space of the recital hall while performing. Dr Marieke Krajenbrink gave a pre-concert talk and presentation about 19th century Romanticism in literature and art. The performance also included Yonit's original photography curated specifically for this musical and visual journey.
